Children of Vietnam Gets International UNICEF AwardDecember 29, 2010 | Kathryn MobleyA Winston-Salem based charity is enjoying some international recognition.
Children of Vietnam provides a range of humanitarian support to very poor children and their families in Da Nang. It began in 1998 and has helped an estimated 5,000 children. One child the group is currently helping is 9-year-old Ly Thi. And recently, UNICEF selected a picture of her as Photo of the Year.
The picture was taken by independent photographer Ed Kashi as part of a separate effort called, The Vietnam Reporting Project.
WFDD's Kathryn Mobley spoke with the non-profit's founder and president Ben Wilson and its Development Director, Nancy Waterie about Ly's health challenges and how the group is helping her.
