Candidate Profile: Steve Royal is the Republican candidate for Treasurer
October 17, 2012 | Natalie Barrett
The Treasurer serves as the state's banker and chief investment officer. The Treasurer manages the state retirement system, investments and unclaimed property, and provides financial support to local governments.
Steve Royal is the Republican candidate for North Carolina Treasurer. Royal says he's running for Treasurer because he's concerned about the state debt. In 1990 he ran for Congress our of concern for the national debt, but failed to win his party's nomination in the primary. Royal recently spoke with WFDD's news intern, Natalie Barrett, about why he's running now, and how the office of Treasurer affects North Carolinians.
