Candidate Profile: Rep. Virginia Foxx Running for Re-Election to 5th Congressional District
October 23, 2012 | Audrey Fannin
Leading up to the general election on November 6th, WFDD news will bring you interviews with a number of North Carolina candidates running for state and national office. Today we turn to the Fifth Congressional District race between incumbant Republican Virginia Foxx and Democratic challenger Elisabeth Motsinger. The district covers the northwestern corner of the state, stretching from Boone to Kernersville and from Mt. Airy to Statesville.
Foxx has held the seat since 2005, defeating Democrats Roger Sharpe in 2006 and Roy Carter in 2008. She taught English before moving into university management, and served as Deputy Secretary for Management under Governor James Martin. She recently spoke with WFDD's Audrey Fannin about why she's running for re-election.
