The Treasurer serves as the state's banker and chief investment officer. The Treasurer manages the state retirement system, investments and unclaimed property, and provides financial support to local governments.

Janet Cowell is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina Treasurer. Cowell is the state's 27th Treasurer, and the first woman to hold the position. She recently spoke with WFDD's news intern, Natalie Barrett, about why she's running for re-election, and the challenges ahead for the position.
