Better Late Than Never - Winston-Salem Vietnam Veteran Finally Receives Medals
August 15, 2012 | Steve Biddle
Jimmie Cameron served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, but never received the medals he'd earned. At a ceremony in his Winston-Salem office Wednesday morning, U-S Senator Richard Burr presented Cameron, who's now 63, with the medals and commendations he earned all those years ago. They include the Air medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, the Combat infantryman Badge, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, The Marksman Badge, and the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in 1969. Burr acknowledged that it had taken too long to award the medals, but to Jimmy Cameron, it was better late than never.
