Author David McCullough Presents "The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris"

February 23, 2012 | David Ford

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author David McCullough is a master of narrative history. He’s twice won the National Book Award, and in 2006 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award.

On Tuesday, February 28, Guilford College, with support from BOOKMARKS, will bring the noted historian and author to the Triad.  McCullough will discuss his most recent book The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris at Reynolds Auditorium in Winston-Salem. He’ll also take questions from the audience.

The Greater Journey tells the story of the adventurous American artists, scientists, and politicians who set off for Paris in the 19th century, and how they were transformed by their experience.

On Wednesday, McCullough spoke with WFDD’s David Ford from his home in Florida.

You can hear more of their interview Monday morning at 8:50am on 88.5 WFDD during Triad Arts Up Close. Then on Tuesday, February 28, beginning at 7:30pm in Reynolds Auditorium, 301 N. Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem, David McCullough will discuss his most recent book.

Guilford College president Kent John Chabotar will introduce the author. After discussing his most recent book, McCullough will take questions from the audience. He also will sign books following his presentation.

Ticket prices are $50, $40 and $30. A discount of half off the $30 tickets ($15 per ticket) is available while supplies last for educators and students. Tickets are available online at The Stevens Center through the UNC School of the Arts box office in Winston-Salem, or by calling 336-721-1945.
