At the Conventions: A Look at the Wives' Speeches
September 5, 2012 | Audrey Fannin
Michelle Obama delivered an emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention's opening night this week. It set the Twitterverse alight with gushing praise. Reuters reported that the TV audience for the speeches by both the first lady last night and Ann Romney last week, was just over 11 million. But in social media, reaction to Michelle Obama's speech was off the charts.
Kathy Smith, Professor of Political Science at Wake Forest University, focuses on presidential politics and political communication. She's co-author of two books about presidential politics. She also writes about First Ladies. She shared her thoughts about the speeches with WFDD's Audrey Fannin.
