As many as four people are injured after an explosion Tuesday at Carolina Precision Fibers in Ronda in Wilkes County.
Emergency officials said one person suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
Victor Varela, mayor of the small community of Ronda, said the building is one of the larger structures in the area. He says the plant manufactures mulch for the construction industry.
"At this point, we don't know exactly what caused it, but emergency officials are looking at the dust bin. It is quite a shock and hopefully everybody will turn out OK," said Varela.
Emergency officials say several firemen were also treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. Varela said he believes the plant employs around a dozen people.
