Archdale Man Challenges High Point Residents
December 22, 2011 |
Mike Liner owns and operates Pioneer Family Restaurant and Steak House on North Main Street in Archdale. He says when his father was a child, The Salvation Army helped his grandfather stop drinking. After that, Liner's father always donated to the non profit. Liner is continuing the tradition but on a larger scale. He convinced the Salvation Army to put a red kettle and a ringer outside his restaurant. The organization doesn't often locate ringers outside of eateries because the customer traffic can fluctuate so much.
However, after some persuasion, he was assigned two red kettles and ringers. One during the lunch rush and another during the dinner hour. But Liner says he needed to create an incentive. So he's issued a challenge to High Point residents, he'll match their donations up to $5,000. The kettles have been in place since the beginning of December. And according to Liner, so far about $3,000 has been collected. Friday evening, someone from The Salvation Army will count all of the donations for a final total.
