A Resource for Victims of Domestic Violence in Same-Sex Relationships

October 22, 2009 | LeShea Agnew

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission reports in 2006-2007, more than 100,000 crisis calls were made across our state from people seeking help from an abuser.

Nearly 2,000 of those calls came from the Triad.

According to Family Services of Forsyth County abusive relationships within the gay and lesbian community are the most underreported and underserved population in our community.

WFDD’s LeShea Agnew has the story of a local church working to be a resource for homosexuals needing help.

In 2007, Minister Ward married her new partner, Joy. Together they raise Ward’s son who is now 11.

The Church of the Holy Spirit Fellowship has joined with the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and as a member can receive training to better assist survivors of domestic violence.

If you would like to help in this effort, you are encouraged to call Minister LaShelle Ward at (336) 631-1331 or visit their website http://www.chsfnc.org/
