18-year-old Winston-Salem Man Faces More Charges

March 12, 2009 | Kathryn Mobley

More charges are levied against the 18-year-old Winston-Salem man involved in a 3 and a half hour standoff with Winston-Salem Police.

Joshua Ryan Smith is being held in the Forsyth County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The charges against him range from assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, going armed to the terror of the public, hit and run property damage, and malicious injury to property, discharging firearm in city limits, and resisting arrest

Wednesday morning, Smith barricaded himself in his home at 525 Barrett Road off Peacehaven Road. He broke out windows on the second floor and fired a shotgun at least a dozen times.

Officers fired tear gas into the house, ending the standoff, and arrested Smith. They also seized several firearms from his home.
