Old Salem Museum & Gardens and the Moravian Music Foundation are celebrating the life of Moravian pastor, bishop, composer, musicians, scholar, and educator Johannes Herbst with a three day symposium April 19th through the 21st at Old Salem in Winston-Salem. There will be concerts, special tours, and enlightening lectures. One of those enlightened lecturers is Dr. Tim Sharp, executive director of the American Choral Directors Association. Last month he dropped by WFDD along with Old Salem organist and coordinator of music programming Scott Carpenter to share the magic of Herbst with TAW host David Ford.

Coming up April 19-22 at the Stevens Center the University of NC School of the Arts presents Spring Dance 2012. On the program will be a unique collection of ballet classics like Act II of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake with John Mauceri conducting the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, modern masterpieces like Jose Limon’s powerful work The Unsung, and Merce Cunningham’s enigmatic Beach Birds, and a new work choreographed by Larry Keigwin will be performed titled Kingdom. UNCSA high schoolers and college students at the dance school will perform after weeks of extensive training from David's guests.
For years, dance educator Sean Sullivan performed as a soloist with the famed Jose Limon Dance Company and he taught at the Limon Institute as well. Franchon Cordell performed soloist roles as a member of the renowned American Ballet Theatre and she’s worked with many of the finest choreographers in history.

Coming up on Friday night, April 13 at 7:30 in Dana Auditorium on the campus of Guilford College, Music for a Great Space presents a spectacular Henry Ingram Memorial Concert.
Due to illness, Anthony Dean Griffey will be unable to perform, instead, rising star baritone Sidney Outlaw, will present a recital with pianist Warren Jones. On the program will be music by Brahms, Mozart, Gershwin, Scott Joplin, Cole Porter and more.
Sidney Outlaw has been lauded by The San Francisco Chronicle as "...an opera powerhouse," and The New York Times as a "terrific singer”. The rising American star who hails from Brevard, North Carolina, recently made his debut with The English National Opera as Rambo in The Death of Klinghoffer. Warren Jones is one of the world’s leading collaborative pianists and he performs with many of today's best-known artists, including Stephanie Blythe, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Anthony Dean Griffey, among many others.
