Triad Arts with David Ford North Carolina Shakespeare Festival: The Tempest (encore)June 28, 2011Shakespeare’s monumental play The Tempest kicked off the NC Shakespeare Festival’s 2010 season. Director Steve Umberger and actors Jack Wetherall (Prospero) and Warren Jackson (Ariel) shared their insights about the play and its characters on TAUC.
PLEASE NOTE: On June 1, 2011 The NC Shakespeare Festival announced that it would not produce a Shakespeare play in the fall for the first time in 34 years. The move came in the wake of the N.C. General Assembly budget cut of more than $200,000 in grant support for the organization. It was a difficult decision for NCShakes Managing and Artistic Director Pedro Silva, disappointing educators, students and patrons, but the company has already begun working on a plan to bring Shakespeare plays back to the Triad. Plus, many of the company’s other programs, including the camps, seminars, workshops and classes at NCShakes’ new Spirit Center will continue. Among them are Young Actors at Work this summer featuring Camp Shakespeare for dedicated theatre students between the ages of 12-18. It’ll run from July 25 through the 29th and space is limited.
