Triad Arts with David Ford Muslim Self PortraitsJanuary 1, 2013Using what he knows best—image-making—Greensboro-based artist Todd Drake combines photography with personal essay to create a series of 20 self-portraits of children, adults, and seniors, both men and women, in the Muslim community.
Their images and stories reveal the prejudice and injustice Muslims often encounter in the United States. They challenge the stereotypes that exist in the minds of many non-Muslims in America, and they express the hopes, dreams, and joys of this community struggling to live as both Muslim and American.
Todd’s traveling exhibit Muslim Self Portraits has toured our state, the country and the world with the most recent being an October exhibition at the Center for American and World Cultures in MacMillan Hall on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
