A Triad Tribute to Levon Helm

August 17, 2012

Triad musicians Jonathan Loos and Tyler Nail have performed in various bands over the years with each artist following his own musical path. But along that journey they’ve shared an admiration for the legendary American artist (and sound behind The Band), Levon Helm.

When Helm passed away in April, the two decided to move ahead with their plan to create a tribute to their musical hero. It’s an album featuring about a dozen local musicians who each picked a song by Helm either from his solo career or The Band to record. The project, nearly six months in the making has come to fruition in a beautiful new album that’ll be released on Saturday night, August 18, at Ziggies in Winston-Salem.

Jonathan and Tyler dropped by WFDD to share their appreciation for Levon Helm, talk about the new CD, and their new organization for networking local musicians with each other and the broader public: Salem Collaboration.

Jonathan and Tyler are currently filming a promotional video about the album’s release on kickstarter.com, a website designed to gather public support for artistic projects. Salem Collaboration will soon be among them.
