Black Pearls of Wisdom

June 3, 2012

StoryLine gives voice to everyday people throughout our community as they share the experiences that shape their lives. It’s a project of the ECHO network and is made possible by the generosity of Salemtowne, a continuing care retirement community, where every life shines and stories are celebrated.

Pat Mardia Stepney is Founder, Vice President and Regional Director of the North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers. When she weaves a tale, she uses the name, Mardia, which means "New Woman". Stepney strongly believes stories can unify diverse people. In today’s segment, she describes how a unique fleet of mobile libraries sparked the imaginations of some Winston-Salem children.
